Traditional Archery at Berg River Dam
1.5 hours | Franschhoek | No experience necessary
There’s something quietly addictive about traditional archery. No sights, no stabilisers, no technology between you and the target — just the draw, the release, and the moment you learn to trust your instinct.
Set on the water’s edge at the Berg River Dam, with the Franschhoek mountains rising behind you, this two-hour experience begins with the fundamentals. One of our guides takes you through stance, grip, draw and release, working with each guest until arrows start finding their mark. It’s slower and more deliberate than you’d expect, and far more satisfying.
Once everyone’s shooting confidently, the range turns competitive. A series of archery games — accuracy rounds, distance challenges and a few surprises — puts your new skills to the test. Expect friendly rivalry, unlikely champions and a fair amount of laughing at each other’s misses.
